Throughout the ages different civilizations have pierced their bodies. Sometimes we start to think that this trend just started a few years ago when we started to see the popularity in mainstream western culture. However, ancient cultures like the Egyptians and Indians pierced their bodies. Sometimes they did it for beauty and decoration like we do, but other times it was to denote the social class of a person. Although body piercing is now more popular, body jewelry costs have remained steady.
Body jewelry costs you in two areas. First, you have to pay to have the piercing. This is an area where you don’t want to skimp. If you get your piercing done with un-sanitary equipment you could have some major health repercussions like tetanus or even HIV. After the piercing is done, you have the cost of the jewelry that you put through the piercing. There is quite a diversity of types of jewelry you can wear. Different types of metals like gold, silver, titanium and stainless steel are available. Of course the costs differ between the metals, and you want to make sure you pick some decent jewelry that won’t get your piercing infected or tarnish. Silver is typically not the best choice because it will tarnish more easily and leave deposits on your skin.
