1. Say YES to the fear! Doing something new or different might activate some fear in us. This is completely natural. And if we don’t go through with it we let the fear win and we don’t say YES.
2. Say YES to self-care! Even between two less-than-healthy choices we can always make the one that is more nourishing. This sends a message that you’re caring for yourself, that you deserve this care and attention and that you’re taking action to improve your self-care habits.
3. Say YES to saying NO! When we have the courage to say “no”, whether it’s to a request for time, to an offer of a tempting “treat”, or to our own negative thinking, we’re empowering ourselves and creating evidence that self-care comes first.
4. Say YES to making choices! When we say yes to making a choice it means we’re saying no to “auto-pilot” behaviour, such as watching the same television shows every day because that’s when they’re on, keeping the same routine (whether it works or not), or fretting over finishing the same chores every week.
5. Say YES to common sense! Keep it simple, usually the best solution is right in front of you and isn’t complicated. Sometimes we resist this because it seems “too easy” or it goes against what we’re used to and brings up a fear of change. Many of us overcomplicate things - the more we think the less we have to do!
How to take this to YOUR self-care plan:
A. Take a look at your self-care goals and your daily practice list and see which actions you haven’t taken yet. Now ask yourself honestly whether fear might be one of the things in your way. As Susan Jeffers says in the title of her best-selling book, we can ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’.
B. Pick one day this week to try an experiment. Carry a notepad with you and mark every time you’re making a choice. Snap out of “auto-pilot”, just for one day, and become conscious of the choices you’re making, and the MANY opportunities for self-care in your day.
C. Tune into your common sense. When things are getting crazy in your day, stop for a moment and just ask yourself what the simplest solution would be, and then carry it out. Repeat whenever necessary.

Every once in a while, someone starts a campaign to lower gasoline prices by urging everyone not to purchase any gas on a certain date. I have noticed that most drivers completely ignore the speed limit on the freeway. Where I live, the freeway speed limit in the city is 65 mph. It is quite possible to drive that fast in the right hand (”slow”) lane and have people come up on your bumper and give you an annoyed look as they go around you because they think you are driving too slowly! 80 mph in the left hand (”fast” or “passing”) lane is normal, as are people in hurry braiding in and out of lanes because they think their time is more important than yours and you are in their way. You might not want to hear this, but such driving wastes gas! The same gas you complain and moan about every time you fill out at the pump gets wasted out on the freeway by such drivers. Maybe even YOU??? (Nah………..)

Now I’m here to tell you that driving 40 mph on the freeway will get you one of three things: 1) a ticket for impeding the flow of traffic 2) into - or becoming the cause of - and accident 3) killed. You won’t cause any accidents, and you won’t get a ticket for impeding traffic. Again, according to Howstuffworks, gas mileage decreases rapidly at speeds above 60 mph. So you are wasting gas and wasting money by driving faster than 60 mph.
Now I can hear you already: “But, I’m late!” Plan ahead, and leave a couple of minutes earlier. Think about it for a minute. If you drive 65 mph for one whole hour, you will only be 5 miles farther down the road that if you drove 60 mph for that same hour. Those of you who spend a whole hour commuting are usually not driving 65 miles. You are driving more like 10 miles, crawling along at jogging speeds. This won’t work for that sort of commute. However, if your drive is such that you have the option of driving faster than 60 mph, DON’T! Set your cruise control at 60 mph, slow down and save.
The beauty of this system is that you benefit from it even if no one else participates! There is a very real possibility that you could fill up your tank one less time per month. That would save you $20-$50 per month, which is $240-$600 per year. Spend it on Christmas presents. Splurge a little on your vacation. There are lots of ways you could enjoy the extra money. And if other people participate, because more and more people would be buying one less tank of gas per month, the supply really would go up because the demand really would be down, and that would mean lower prices which would benefit everybody (except maybe OPEC, and they don’t need the money.) Try it!

over their waistbands. Not a good look.

ask yourself if the look works for you and your beautiful body. I once
read an interview with the actress Sela Ward, in which she said she
chooses clothes to show off her amazing flat stomach but avoids items that expose her flabby thighs. You see, nobody’s perfect!
The key is to emphasize what you do have and to detract from what you
don’t. Buy only the clothes that you know you’ll put on over and over
again because they make you feel fantastic. Think twice about any garment
heralded by women’s magazines as “must-have” items. The only
“must-haves” in life are oxygen and self-esteem.
Which brings me to my next subject: When you go out to a club, a bar or
a party, you will notice that 3/4 of the other women are half naked.
Yes, some of them look quite good half naked (while the other half look
quite scary), but dressing provocatively often attracts the very guys a
woman would do better to avoid.
Put it this way: If you don’t leave anything to the imagination, you
usually attract a guy with no imagination.
At the end of the day, you don’t want to attract a guy because he
thinks you’re hot. You want to attract a guy who likes you for you. Dress
sexily but subtly. You don’t want your clothes to scream, “I gotta find
me a man tonight!”
Dress comfortably. If you feel comfortable, you’ll look comfortable,
and that’s sexy. Here’s an example: Once upon a time I went to the beach
with some friends who actually have melanin in their skin. They took to
their blankets in their cute bikinis, while I (so pale I make Snow
White look like Grace Jones) sat beside them wearing Levis, a long-sleeved
shirt, and sunglasses.
Out of nowhere, a gorgeous, well-toned man appeared (the type of guy
you see in suntan lotion commercials) and asked me, the freak on the
beach, what I was reading.
“Wuthering Heights,” I said.
“Really?” he asked. “I just finished Jane Eyre.”
And so began a little romance.
Still bewildered, I told my male friend B. this story years later. I
didn’t understand why this Adonis chose Glow-in-the-Dark Terry over the
dark lovelies in bikinis.
“I understand completely,” B. responded. “The beach was crawling with
girls in bikinis, and you presented something else. A little mystery.”
“In a pair of Levis?”
“Yeah,” he said. “The guy probably thought, this girl is different. I
want to talk to her.”
Does this mean you should throw away your bikini? Heck, no, especially
if you look good in it. But the point is, be true to yourself. Dress to
make the very best of your unique and beautiful body.

The old axiom is that just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. A lot of times States get flushed with their own power because the Constitution says that they retain the powers not delegated to the Federal Government (Amendment X: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people”). Bureaucrats who like power take that to mean that they can do whatever they want … ignoring the other part of that amendment which mentions “the people”. And even if the “people” want something it doesn’t mean they should get it either especially if their want infringes on the rights of others.
Theoretically that is why we have a Republican government which is to protect against the ravages of pure Democracy and the mere wants of people.
The Maryland Legislature has decided that Walmart isn’t paying “it’s fair share” with regards to health care. The unions, bureaucrats, competing businesses and assorted other economic socialists have managed to get a law into place that will require the retailer to spend 8% of its payroll on healthcare because they have over 10,000 employees in the state.
Ok, so aside from the obvious economic insanity of this approach which tells businesses that they should not expand, create new jobs and help people get out from under the welfare state it is also of wonder how many of these legislators are voting for the bill in exchange for “kickbacks” - legally known as “campaign contributions”. Perhaps an investigation should be in order?
So what is Walmart to do? Some have said that Walmart should just lay off enough employees to get them under the 10,000 mark. Currently Walmart has an estimated 17,000 employees in the state. But that wont help. Next legislative session they will just drop the threshold to some lower number. And if the “your money is our money” socialists in government had their way they would simply just pass emergency legislation that would stop Walmart from laying off enough employees to get in under the set level.
No? Don’t think so? Why not? They’ve already passed legislation telling Walmart how to run it’s business!
No, nothing Walmart does short of launching a defensive nuclear attack will do. This nuclear attack would entail Walmart closing every single store and emptying every shelf in them in Maryland and laying off every last one of it’s over 10,000 employees. Walmart has to do this because there is similar legislation being considered in other states as well. And only if Walmart pulls out and conducts a scorched earth nuclear campaign in Maryland will there be a chance that people will wake up and realize what is happening here.
Of course at this point there is nothing preventing the Maryland legislature from passing a new law that would prevent Walmart from closing up every store either. After all, they apparently think that they have this sort of power.
The harder the left tries to institute it’s bizarre agenda of increasing government regulation over our lives to “help” the more it destroys our lives. The more it claims to want to “help” the people by passing insane regulations mandating businesses spend their money in certain ways to facilitate the wants of others the more they punish us by decreasing supply, raising prices, confiscating more of our wealth and putting more and more mouths on the government dole.
As former President Reagan once said the truly most terrifying words in America are “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” And it’s the TRUTH!

Living serenely doesn’t mean that we deny problems or avoid the responsibility for solving them. Just the opposite - we find the clarity and presence of mind to deal with the issues of daily living in positive constructive ways. Instead of identifying with problems and painful situations, we approach them from a calm center where constructive ideas originate.
Ask yourself: What thoughts tend to block my awareness of serenity and tranquility?
If you could choose, what would you want God to say to you in your most serene and tranquil moments?
Spend a moment in silence today. Look beneath and between the thoughts that occupy your mind. Notice the peaceful energy of aliveness within you.
Share this spirit of serenity with others through kindness and constructive action. By sharing peace with others, you will become more and more aware of the serenity and tranquility within you.
