4 Ways to Beat the Long Hitter

1. Hit it straight
Nothing gets inside a long hitters head faster then a fairway hitting opponent. Chances are the long hitter is not the most accurate driver of the golf ball, keep the heat on by hitting the fairway as much as possible. If you have to use a hybrid club or a iron off the tee to keep the ball in the fairway, the mental edge of hitting the fairway outweighs the loss of distance.

2. Hit the green
Most of if not all of the time you will be hitting first, keep the heat on by hitting the green If he knows you are looking at birdie putts all day, it starts to wear on him

3. Have a good short game
The short game is the true equalizer on the golf course. If you have a sharp short game you can compete against any golfer on the planet.

4. Ignore his distance
Accept the fact the he hits the ball 50 to 60 yards past you. If you accept the fact that distance doesn’t matter, you will have another psychological advantage. What difference does it make if he is hitting a pitching wedge and you are hitting a 7 iron for your second shot? Golf is all about getting the ball in the hole in the fewest strokes, not how you got the ball in the fewest strokes.

When you are playing a match against a long hitter, and lets face it, with the technology in golf clubs, golf balls, strength training and nutrition, guys are hitting the ball 300 plus yards on a regular basis. The fact still remains that when you are on the golf course you are walking (or riding) with a bag of tools. It is just a matter of using the right tool for task at hand. Does it really matter what club it takes you to hit a golf ball 150 yards? Weather it’s a 6, 7,8 or 9 iron should not matter to you, and your opponents club selection should be the last thing from your mind during a match.

The pride of the long hitters game is hitting it long, so the fact that you can compete with him without having to hit the 300 yard drives is already a advantage in your favor if you choose to look at it that way. As a short hitter you should focus on keeping the pressure on as much as possible. The four steps that I have outlined will give you the mental edge that you need to negate the long drives that your opponent is blasting past you.

Tennis: How to Win the Game Through Concentration Technique

Tennis is played primarily with the mind. The most perfect
racquet technique in the world will not suffice if the directing
mind is wandering.

There are many causes of a wandering mind in a
tennis match. The chief one is lack of interest in the game. No
one should play tennis with an idea of real success unless he
cares sufficiently about the game to be willing to do the
drudgery necessary in learning the game correctly.

Give it up at
once unless you are willing to work. Conditions of play or the
noises in the gallery often confuse and bewilder experienced
match-players playing under new surroundings.

Complete
concentration on the matter in hand is the only cure for a
wandering mind, and the sooner the lesson is learned the more
rapid the improvement of the player. An amusing example, to all
but the player affected, occurred at the finals of the Delaware
State Singles Championship at Wilmington. I was playing Joseph J.
Armstrong.

The Championship Court borders the No. 1 hole of the
famous golf course. The score stood at one set all and 3-4 and
30-40, Armstrong serving. He served a fault and started a second
delivery. Just as he commenced his swing, a loud and very lusty
“Fore!” rang out from the links. Armstrong unconsciously looked
away and served his delivery to the backstop and the game to me.
The umpire refused to “let” call and the incident closed. Yet a
wandering mind in that case meant the loss of a set.

The surest way to hold a match in mind is to play for every set,
every game in the set, every point in the game and, finally,
every shot in the point. A set is merely a conglomeration of made
and missed shots, and the man who does not miss is the ultimate
victor.

Please do not think I am advocating “pat-ball.” I am not. I
believe in playing for your shot every time you have an opening.

I do not believe in trying to win the point every time you hit
the ball. Never allow your concentration on any game to become so
great that you do not at all times know the score and play to it.
I mean both point score and game score. In my explanation of
match play in a later chapter I am going into a detailed account
of playing to the score.

It is as vital in tennis as it is in
bridge, and all bridge players know that the score is the
determining factor in your mode of bidding. Let me urge again
concentration. Practise seriously. Do not fool on the court, as
it is the worst enemy to progress. Carelessness or laziness only
results in retrogression, never progress.

Enjoy yourself.

Golf Training Aid

The sport of golf has grown so much over the past few years that it is hard to point out a golfer without seeing them play. Years ago the only people that played golf were the old me with the funny pants and bad fashion sense. I am not sure of the reason but the game of golf has taken off dramatically, and successfully brought the younger generations into the game. I am very happy about this because the game of golf needed a facelift. Now we have a whole new group of people that are learning what many of us already knew and that is that golf is a wonderful game that can teach patience, hard work and dedication. These are qualities that all humans should possess and at the same time the youngsters are learning those traits they are having fun. The thing is that golf is an easy game to learn the rules of and get out and try but a very difficult game to get good at. It is for this reason that the golf training aid market has boomed even more than it ever had before. There are hundred of golf training aids to choose from and a lot of them are really good and many of them are useless and a total waste of money. I have tried a ton of the golf training aids available and have a few that I am thoroughly impressed with and would recommend to everyone.

The first type of golf training aid that I think is excellent is golf dust training. For those of you that are not familiar with the terms golf dust training I can put it in a nutshell for you. Remember the term impact tape? Most people know what impact tape is and what it does. Impact tape allows the golfer to see what spot exactly the golf club hit the golf ball. The goal every swing is to hit the golf ball with the golf club in just the right spot allowing the club to do what it is intended to do. The tape was frankly a pain in the butt to use and set up. Golf dust training employs similar concepts but is an easy to use spray can of powder. The golfer simply pulls out a small spray can of golf dust and sprays it on the club face of the golf club. The golf dust training material goes on easily and allows you to get hundreds of swings off of one inexpensive can. Anyway, the golf dust allows you to easily see where the golf club hit the golf ball and lets you make the determination of what to change. If you alter something and swing the golf club again the golf dust training aid will let you see where the club hit the ball and you can determine by the hit whether the change you made was good or not and if it was good and is something you want to continue it gives you a representation of what to replicate.

I have tried so many golf training aids and have spent a lot of money on training aids of all sorts and it happens that the cheapest and most effective thing I have purchased is the golf dust training materials. Give it a shot and you will not be disappointed.

Whether you play golf only occasionally or regularly you will be
in need of good golf equipment. Every golfer knows the
importants of having equipment that is of a high standard.
However, not every golfer can afford to pay high prices for
their golf equipment like the professionals do. And the good
news is that they don’t have to.

There are many companies and manufacturers that have different
ranges to suit every one. Prices can range from budget to very
expensive. Ladies, men and children are all catered for. Of
course finding these companies and choosing what you want can be
time consuming and mentally draining. That is why shopping
online is a great alternative to the usual boring way of
shopping.

You will be able to sit in the comfort of your own home and
browse around not only one store but as many as you like. You
will quickly find discount equipment and accessories to your
liking. And don’t think that being discount means cheap because
that is not the case. Shopping online saves you money because
the company is more often than not saving on over heads making
it not only more convenient for you but often much more cheaper
also.

Shopping this way for your golf equipment also gives you more
opportunity to review the products on offer while comparing the

or finding the best product for you to buy there and then. It is
up to you whether you wish to go and buy you products at the
store or buy online. If you buy online you can most likely have
what you want shipped to your door for even more convenience.

How easy is that? So, if you are in need of clubs, bags, covers,
balls, clothes or even carts then this is the way to find what
you need conveniently, efficiently and cheaply.

Boat Ladders

A boat ladder is an essential accessory for boats. They help in climbing in and out of the boats. Boat ladders can assist in climbing in the boat from two ways; one from the deck mount and two from the side. They come in a variety of models ranging from single step to five steps. The height of the boat helps in deciding the number of steps you need. They are mostly manufactured in a combination of aluminum, stainless steel, vinyl and plastic parts. Boat ladders have two hooks at the top to fit on the boat’s side for support. The width of your boat side should determine the size of the boat ladder hook. Most boat ladders come in folding type models with unbreakable rungs and do not sink in the water.

There are some special boat ladders. Transom ladders are meant for boats having transoms. Similarly, there are ladders for pontoon boats. Even an electric hydraulic controlled ladder is available for pontoon boats; having two handrails that extend up to facilitate climbing. For divers, there are sports boat ladders that come with center design and a comfortable angle for a problem-free, easy dive. And for the explorer who has to wear inflatable gear, specially designed ladders with contours are available. Rope ladders are not very common in boats, but they are quite convenient for swimmers. Rope ladders are used for landings and are essential for rescues. For the people, who like to take their dogs boating, there are boat ladders designed for dogs without gaps, so they can walk easily in and out of the boat without stumbling and falling.

Boat ladders should ideally fold flat for easy storage, should be sturdy and durable and provide maximum foot comfort. One can find boat ladders in outdoor activities stores, hardware shops, and special boat accessories shops or on the Internet. Some manufacturers provide custom-made boat ladders on request.

Ladders provides detailed information about ladders, pool ladders, boat ladders, step ladders and more. Ladders is the sister site of School Playground Equipment.

Tiger Woods, the Greatest Ever? -NOT!

Tiger is great but still a long way from claiming the title of “Greatest That Ever Played The Game”. Although I do believe he is more then on his way to claiming that illustrious title, God willing. But until then, Slammin’ Sammy Snead is my pick. That’s right, not even Nicklaus.

If you look at the 11 win gap between Jack’s 70 total victories and Sam’s 81 and then figure Sam’s total of 165 victories he claims, no one even comes close. Sorry Jack. Now figure in the shape of the courses today, the equipment and the level of competition and there is no doubt in my mind that Sammy is the man. Keep in mind, Sam played against, Byron Nelson and Ben Hogan — all born the same year - they were considered the era’s Big Three. Hogan amassed 63 total wins and Nelson won 52, putting both of them in the top 5 of the all time winners list. Does anyone really thing that Tiger’s best competition today, is going to end up in that illustrious group? I think not.

Statically speaking there is a large gap between the top of the all time winners list that not even the great Walter Hagen bridges. Hagen, in 7th place with 40 wins, is eleven short of the 6th placeholder, Billy Casper. Eleven wins is an entire career for even a great player on the tour today. Again I ask you to look at the gap between number 2 on the list, Jack Nicklaus and Number 1, Sam Snead, eleven wins.

Even if you are the most vehement “Tigernite” or Nicklaus Nut, you have to admit, the real all time golf elite includes only a very few, 6 to be exact: Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer, Byron Nelson and Billy Casper. And Billy Casper gets my vote for the greatest player with the least recognition, by far.

Now I’m going to really tick you Tigernites off. My money says he never gets there. (However, I’m not betting the really big money) Why? I think he runs out of desire. The bigger he gets, the closer he gets, the more he wins, the more the pressure will build. If he has shown any weakness at all, it is his temper that occasionally gets the best of him. As the pressures mount, and with the glare of the media of today it will, I think that pressure will sooner or later wear him down. No, I’m not predicting he will go “postal” and toss a camera in a lake with the owner still attached, but I think the “fire in the belly” will dime. And if I am right, it will be a travesty to lose, not the greatest that ever played, but one of the greatest, that could have toppled “the” Greatest Player That Ever Lived, Sam Snead!

Only time will tell!

Dallas Cowboys’ Off-season Grades

With the off-season festivities coming to a conclusion after the draft, it is time to look back at the myriad of moves made by the Cowboys this off-season. I will start with free agency. To the right of the grade is the contract length and dollar amount and years.

WR - Terrell Owens - C+ 3/25

This is a boom or bust signing. With TO, we will have one of the most potent offenses in the league. There is also a chance that he could destroy our team chemistry and ruin our season. I don’t believe this will happen, in the first year anyway.

ILB - Akin Ayodele - B+ 5/17

Ayodele appears to be the perfect player to replace Nguyen. He is a big, physical LB who excels at stuffing the run. He is young, and still has some upside but he is somewhat of a question mark considering Jacksonville really didn’t even want him back.

OT - Jason Fabini - A 3/7.5

This was a great move. We brought in a good veteran tackle for a bargain. He will help add stability to our offense line.

OG - Kyle Kosier - B 5/15

The Cowboys obviously believe that Kyle is on the verge of a breakout season. But he really hasn’t been anything special up to this point. I like his signing, but I question if he will really be an upgrade over Larry Allen.

TE - Ryan Hannam - B- 3/5

We needed another blocking TE, and he should feel that role nicely. He is stilllargely a developing player though so Dallas is hoping he improves over his performance in Seattle.

LB - Rocky Boiman - B 3/5

Boiman is a great special teams player who provides solid depth at LB. He better be as good as people say he is on coverage units to be worth the money.

K - Mike Vanderjagt - B 3/5.5

We definitely need a kicker, but I would have preferred one that could kick-off and wasn’t such a jerk.

FS - Marcus Coleman - A 1/.8

I’m not sure if he has anything left, but if he does we got a heck of a steal. Can’t really complain when we is only making about eight hundred thousand.

I disagreed with some of the picks in the draft, but you can’t get upset just because they didn’t select “your” guys. I really liked what we did on the second day. We got some great value. They only spot I regret not filling holes at was offensive line, but you can only fill so many holes.

OLB Bobby Carpenter - A

This was a great pick. He is the perfect fit for our defense. They only thing that could have made this pick better is if we could have traded back a couple of spots and still got him.

TE Anthony Fasano - B

This pick is definitely growing on me. We did need another TE since we are making the switch to a 2 TE offense. Fasano is a blue-collar player who will
come in and contribute immediately.

DE Jason Hatcher - C

I’m not a big fan of this pick, but I see why it was made. Hatcher has freakishathletic ability for a guy his size and could really be a steal. That being said, DE was already one of our deepest positions, and I believe we have two long-term starters already here in Canty and Spears.

WR/KR Skyler Green - B-

I like Green, but this might have been a little high for him. He is a great punt returner, but never did much as a receiver.

FS Pat Watkins - A

I love the Watkins pick. He was a good player at Florida St., and he really haslots of potential. Don’t be too surprised if he is our starting free safety.

NT Montavious Stanley - A+

The best pick of our draft. He is taylor made for the nose tackle position. Not only does he provide much needed depth, but he has great potential as well. I don’t see how he made it to the 6th Round as good as we has in college.

G/T Pat McQuistian - B

Pat is a huge sleeper who will have a hard time making the team without an injury. He is a big, strong and fairly athletic lineman, but he is as raw as you can get. Practice squad guy.

OL EJ Whitley - A

I really like this pick. Whitley was a consistent part of the Texas Tech offensive line for three years. He has starting experience at every O-line position, but he is probably best suited to play center and guard. I will be rooting for him to make the team, because if we have another center on our roster then we will be more likely to use Gurode as a starting guard if one of the starters falters. Otherwise, Parcells will be hesistant to do so since he would only have one other center on the roster.

Overall, I would give our off-season grade a B+. Cutting Allen and Glover hurt a little, but you can’t complain to much with all the moves we made. Bill and Jerry definitely get an A for effort because they no doubt tried to improve this team. I would give free agency a solid A-, because we signed quality guys with some upside while avoiding the huge contracts that can haunt you. I will give the draft a B with room for improvement if Hatcher pans out.

Golf Fitness Evaluation Is The First Step Towards Improving Your Game

Golf fitness evaluation can be an invaluable tool in helping any
golfer to assess where they currently stand and thus help them
reach a decision of what they can do to improve. It is now an
accepted fact amongst golf experts that an improvement in golf
fitness almost always means an amazing improvement in the
quality and standard of play by any golfer, whether in the
junior level or a senior citizen, and irrespective of whether
they are male or female.

In the old days it was rare for golfers to think of anything
like golf fitness evaluation. In fact the word “exercise” could
have been classified as a dirty word in golf. In those days golf
was considered a gentleman’s game where most played an almost
entire game while hardly breaking into a sweat. Therefore
exercises and golf fitness evaluation programs were virtually
unheard of. But times have changed. The modern game has changed
and golf-specific exercises are the rule rather than the
exception amongst professionals and so are golf fitness
evaluations.

Even amongst amateur golfers who are serious about improving
their game, it is important to do an evaluation of ones’ golf
fitness. Without any evaluation of your current golf fitness
level followed by some concrete action, like joining a golf
exercise program, chances of enjoying your golf game are very
slim and the possibility of you improving your handicap are
close to nil. This is because increasingly you will find
yourself playing against golfers involved in golf exercise
programs.

In fact recent research has clearly proved that as golfers who
do not exercise, grow older, their game deteriorates making it a
more and more frustrating experience rather than the enjoyable
leisure activity they may have known for years.

It is now becoming increasingly clear by the day that golf
fitness evaluation are set to become even more commonplace and a
vital tool to help golfers take the necessary action to improve
on their game.
